The journey from the serene southwest of Sekotong and Gili Gede to the bustling Bangsal Harbor is a northward traverse across the island's diverse landscapes, typically taking around two to two and a half hours. It begins with a short boat transfer from the tranquil shores of Gili Gede to the mainland dock in Sekotong. The drive then heads east, following the winding coastal road off the peninsula, offering final glimpses of the calm, turquoise bays that characterize the region. Upon merging onto the main southern highway near Gerung, the scenery undergoes a dramatic transformation. The arid, rolling hills of South Lombok gradually give way to the lusher, more fertile plains of the island's central region. The route passes through Praya, a major central hub, before turning decisively northward. Here, the majestic profile of Mount Rinjani comes into full view, dominating the western horizon. The climate subtly shifts as you ascend into the foothills, with the air becoming slightly cooler, marking the transition from the dry southern coast towards the greener, more temperate north.

The final leg of the journey is defined by the lively and sometimes chaotic atmosphere that heralds the proximity to the Gili Islands. After passing through the town of Narmada, the road leads directly into the coastal area of Pemenang. The energy palpably changes; the relaxed rural pace accelerates into the frenetic buzz of a major tourist transit point. The last few kilometers into Bangsal are a sensory immersion. The main road narrows into a single lane crammed with a vibrant ecosystem of shops selling sarongs and snorkels, makeshift food stalls, and persistent touts offering transport and tickets. The car must navigate a slow-moving stream of pedestrians, scooters, and horse-drawn carts known as cidomo. Arriving at Bangsal's perimeter, the journey concludes in a dusty parking lot, a world away from the secluded peace of Sekotong. Here, the sounds of the open road are replaced by the sputter of outrigger boat engines, the calls of hawkers, and the excited chatter of travelers, completing the passage from a remote coastal escape to the dynamic and crowded gateway for island adventures.
